Adapting to New Peak Hours Through Permanent Load Shifting (PLS)
AgMonitor, through a California Energy Commission grant, has developed an 8 step program to permanently shift irrigation pumping loads off peak. Peak hours of highest energy cost in California have changed from the old Monday through Friday, noon to 6 pm ON PEAK to 4 or 5 pm to 8 or 9 pm at night due to the advent of solar power and associated "Duck" curve of shifting peak energy versus demand timing. Growers must adjust their schedules and irrigation patterns or face increasing costs and grid overload when energy supplies are at their lowest. In addition, high demand charges on their electricity during peak times can also penalize them and reduce profit due to high energy bills. This webinar will demonstrate how to avoid high energy costs for irrigation and teach growers how to "Permanently shift their usage Off Peak". These live, interactive webinars will show real world examples and solutions on how growers can accomplish this. CCA's help with crop management and need this information to inform farms they manage on how to comply with changing regulations in California and ever increasing energy costs that are expected to rise nearly 30% in the next few years. California has some of highest energy rates in the nation already so this will cut into farmer's bottom lines.
